Link The Bar Fly- “Bluecolla Blues” [Mixtape Review]

Link The Bar Fly- “Bluecolla Blues” [Mixtape Review]
Link The Bar Fly "Bluecolla Blues" Mixtape Cover

Member of the Boondock Saints, Link The Bar Fly has released his new mixtape in June 2011available for free download. Also, Link was one of the five members of the Boondock Saints that was interviewed by HOOKEDUPB in May 2011 to expose their group, and one of a kind idea to bring a number of genres together to make one sound. Link style is too mix old school Rock, and Rap together; tell the truth it’s a classic sound! This ‘tape is about who Link The Bar Fly is, what he thinks, and does in specific situations with no holding back. The production is proper; the beats, samples, skits, and instrumentals gives the feeling of nostalgia while Link The Bar Fly’s new lyrics makes each track his own. Fun cool Track list below:

I’m Not Crazy
I’m Here Ft. DIGGY
Link Ladies (Drake Remix)
Hold On
Link Da Who
Drama
Skit
Hold U 2nite
Poke U 2 (Skit)
Link Iz
Rougher than Average
Sick Beat Dissin’ JAY WACK (Skit)
Oops
Like A Soildger Ft. Shank Street Social
Burb Song Outro

Here is a description of some of the tracks off the “Bluecolla Blues” mixtape:

Oops- Laid back Hip Hop track about how Link The Bar Fly feels about what other people think about him

Drama- Uniquely produced track using two samples one being Eminem’s melody for “Stan” instead of being about a crazy fan; Link talks about fake friends, and how its wack!

Link Iz- Old school Hip Hop beat which Link says: he’s back, and he’s not gonna stop; proclaiming his dedication to the music hustle

Rougher Than Average- a reckless party song the hook goes as follows: “break bread with my brothers, I’m high as a mother fucker, slick as shit, yo I’m rougher than average, yo I’m stabbing hoes

Hold On- this song leans more towards a rock tune with a lyrical rap flow about: a girl- a relationship that didn’t last

Chop-Z “Best Kept Secret” [Mixtape Review]

Chop-Z Best Kept Secret [Mixtape Review]
Chop-Z "Best Kept Secret", Mixtape (Front)

Chop-Z is a Toronto up ‘n coming Rapper, age 20 with some experience in the music industry starting with the 2006 "Flemo to Parma" video. Music has always been a part of his life, and a natural talent with his wide array of words, coupled with knowledge, and confidence; his record appeal is REAL Hip Hop.  Chop-Z has just released his second mixtape called “Best Kept Secret” available online for free download at: http://www.hotnewhiphop.com/en/view-album/16494-the-best-kept-secret . Best Kept Secret” includes 2 freestyles, and 14 tracks that all go hard, & 4 singles; some favorites are: “Big L & Jay-Z 7 min. Freestyle” (Remake), “I Don’t Care What They Say”, “Another Day Another Dollar”, “The Youngest in Charge”, and “Who Hah”. Some of the above tracks were released on Youtube before the mixtape dropped accumulating hundreds of views. One single on the mixtape that stands out in contrast to the others- it’s heart felt, and personal “By Your Side” about lost ones taken by these cold streets of Toronto. If you take a listen to the mixtape you WILL become a supporter or hater (yes it’s that good) guaranteed! Chop-Z created a good mixture of conscience, and hardcore tracks from his own experiences. Continuing, he is a unique lyrist with the ability to rap about real life situations adding a touch of wisdom in each message. “Best Kept Secret” is a music must have (if your into Real Hip Hop)- don’t say I didn’t tell you!

Hydee is an experienced (14 yrs MCing & 11 yrs DJing) DJ/ MC that entertains people in the GTA nightclubs playing Dubstep, D&B, and Drumstep music. He is part of THE BUSINESS with: Stickbubly, Chilton Gaines, and Everest; Hydee is also a member of the Embrace DJ Roster. Dubstep is becoming increasingly popular with its mad success in the UK spilling into Canada by the powers of Internet networking. Hydee has been providing clubs full of people in the GTA with Dubstep’s electric sound for the past three years, and is getting rave reviews from fans now. You can catch Hydee on July 8th at  Arnold’s- Dr. Ozi  & on July 15, 2011 at Outback Camping  (Port Burwell)- Spectrum Festival (for his full schedule see his Facebook, info section). For a free download of his newest mix go to http://www.soundcloud.com/hydee . With such great reviews, and an outburst in demand for Dubstep music HOOKEDUPB contacted Hydee highly recommended DJ/MC for an interview, see below:

When did you become a DJ and start producing Dubstep music?

Well I started originally DJing in early 2000, and started to produce D&B then Dubstep about 3 years ago, but I haven’t touched production in about a year lol mad slackin’, actually I’m just crazy busy I got out of it, but intend to get back into it eventually lol

You DJ at a lot of different clubs in the GTA, do you have an agent to who books you? if not how do u get these high profile placements?

Embrace the company that runs the big Dubstep parties in Toronto books me, I’m pretty much exclusive to them for playing big Dubstep jams etc, they just kept booking me then I guess they liked what I did and kept booking me now I MC for all their headliners and DJ closing slot after the headliners  As for management and bookings I pretty much do it myself, although I am in talks with some agents who want to rep me, so we shall see what the future hold for me!!!

Have you or have you considered working with Hip Hop artists in the GTA for a unique sound?

Uhmmmmm never really thought of it, if it was a good opportunity and i believed in the artist I was working with, then I’m game to make some new sound, always down to help other artist and pushing the new sound, and scene in Toronto

You make mixtapes for fans/ public can you tell us a little bit about those projects?

I just usually try to put out a mix every 4 - 6 months, for my fans and really for anyone who likes Dubstep, Drumstep or D&B, I’m actually just about to put my newest one out tonight lol

When playing a clubs what are the pros, and cons you face?

Pro's - playing with all the HUGE headliners in the scene, doing what I love, meeting tonnes of new people and just having an all around good time!!!

Con's - Not too many that I can think of really, sometimes you get technical difficulties that are out of your control, and that kinda puts a kink in things, but yah just gotta rise above it, and keep the rinse going for all the people!!

What are your thoughts about Dubstep becoming increasingly popular in Canada with the success it’s having in the UK?

I’m game lol, Dubstep is becoming more, and more popular, and trendy these days with the younger generation and i embrace it and all it has to offer, the bigger the scene and push for the music, the more people I get to reach out to and show them what I got to offer

I have seen many club pictures of DJ’s doing their thing, but your seem to scream excitement and entertainment, is this your passion for music showing in the pictures or..?

Yeh maybe, never really thought of it like that, I just like to do my thing, and if the camera captures that moment then awesome, i think this is also attributed to the photographer taking the picture when I’m MCing or DJing, if you know your Dubstep or music in general, you know when to take your shots, for drops, breaks, and crowd reaction etc.......if that makes any sense lol

What are some of your music related goals for the future?

Defo get back in production is my number one goal, making music is really the only way to further my career and anyone’s career really, so that’s number one, then eventually I’d like to tour, take it international if I can, will just have to wait and see for that though.

What sort of things do you look forward or get excited about in your profession? (Special events, working with other DJ’s, certain clubs est)

I get excited still about everything, playing the big clubs, MCing for the headliners, DJing with all the top notch DJ's, meeting the DJ's, meeting new people, and I always love it when new people come up to me and big me up for doing a good job, feels good to know what I’m doing makes other people happy and makes me feel like I’m doing a good job and its all about having a good time!!

Any last comments or shout outs?

Just wanna shout out to all my fans and supporters over the past little bit, you guys are awesome really wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for you guys so BIG THE FUCK UP TO YOU AND YOUR CREW!!!! All the guys from Embrace for giving me the opportunity in the first place and believing in me and letting me live a life that most people only dream about, they have been awesome and i got nothing but love and respect for them.
